Summer is upon us, and Brits are getting ready for their long awaited holidays in the sun. Finding the perfect destination and booking a flight that doesn't break the bank is almost as rewarding as the holiday itself.
Cheap flights, especially those offered by EasyJet, TUI and Ryanair are in high demand this time of year because of their competitive bargain breaks. It's a skill to pack everything you need for a holiday in a small carry-on bag, but in an attempt to avoid extra charges for holding luggage, be careful you don't pack something too costly.
Knowing what you can pack in a carry-on bag might just mean you don't miss out on your holiday this summer. As most people know, there are strict restrictions on the maximum amount of liquids you can take in your hand luggage.

But did you know that liquids include foods such as jam and honey, cosmetics like mascara or lip gloss and items such as toothpaste, hair gel and contact lens solution. Containers must hold no more than 100 ml and they must be in a single, transparent, resealable plastic bag which holds no more than a litre and measures approximately 20cm x 20cm.
There are a number of items that you must not carry in your hand luggage, or at all when travelling by air in the UK.
Here is a list of all the items banned from hand luggage on flights leaving the UK:
Liquid oxygen
Stunning devices
Ammunition
Guns, firearms and all other devices that discharge projectiles, including replicas
Camping stoves
Mercury thermometers
Explosives including fireworks
Blunt instruments including baseball bats and fishing rods
Chemical or toxic substances
Workmen's tools including drills and crowbars
Sharp objects including knives and razor blades - though disposable razors are allowed
Hoverboards
"Smart Luggage" (a bag or suitcase with a battery)
Pets or any animals other than assistance dogs
Party poppers
Print and toner cartridges that weigh more than 500g
Lighter fuel - though passengers are allowed to carry one disposable lighter in a clear resealable plastic bag
If you are caught with a banned item, security will search your bag. Your luggage may also be tested which could lead to you missing your flight and invalidating your holiday plans.
In extreme cases, you could be kicked off the plane and be banned from flying with that airline again.
If you bring or attempt to bring illegal substances with you, you will be arrested on the spot and could face hefty fines or even prison.
